Canada eliminated from medal contention in IIHF World Championships

Canada lost to Slovakia this morning and will not be playing in the medal games. The Russian team squeaked out a win against Norway as well, meaning that Canada will finish 5th in the tournament. TeamUSA plays Finland beginning at 11:30am ET. If they win, they will go on to the Semifinals. (Winners in the semis play for the medals.)

Off Topic: Rays, Red Sox now tied for AL Wild Card

In one of the most spectacular collapses in baseball history, the Boston Red Sox have officially squandered the entirety of their lead for the final playoff berth. The Tampa Bay Rays season and playoff dreams depend their play during the next two games. As the above link will tell you: Bolts Nation is in the Rays corner. GO RAYS GO!

A little Lightning love from ESPN, of all places

Just about any day: Tampa Bay coach Guy Boucher Burnside: Whether he was going all bug-eyed at a referee's call or predicting the return of Boston's Patrice Bergeron to the Bruins' lineup (a moment that earned him the press box nickname of Dr. Boucher) or insisting that the Washington Capitals were absolutely unbeatable even as the Lightning were in the process of sweeping the East's best regular-season team, Guy Boucher was a treat. The rookie head coach exudes passion for the game, and his patience with the media (always a good thing, no?) was boundless. More coaches like Boucher and you don't have to worry about selling this game, regardless of where the players lace up their skates. Oh yeah, he did a pretty good job behind the bench, too, taking the Lightning to the seventh game of the Eastern Conference finals. [-from "Our top moments from the 2011 playoffs"]

Novelty Guy Boucher Twitter Account

Hey everyone. I'm a Blues fan and a follower/sporadic poster on St. Louis Game Time. Rooting for you guys and especially Brewer to do well now. Anyways, my buddy started a fake twitter account for Guy Boucher's scar where the tweets are from the scar's perspective. It's slightly immature but delivers a good laugh every now and then. Definitely not a jab at Guy or the Lightning, mostly just general NHL related humor and jokes pertaining as to how the scar (with it's enigmatic origin) got there. This is a collaborative effort, so we come up with random jokes and are trying to spread the word in the blogosphere. We should be doing some live tweets of a few Conf. Final games if you want to check us out. Please share with others too, we'd like to gain a solid following.

Roy Vs. Boucher and the QMJHL

Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy blames Guy Boucher for the QMJHL for being a more defensive league... And Guy responded to the accusations.

Tampa Bay Lightning takes break from intense preseason with paintball outing

As an avid fan of paintball for over the past two decades, it's great to see the sport being used by the pros as a tool for building teamwork off the ice. Now if we could only get the St. Louis Blues to play a few games. Perhaps a STL Gametime paintball outing could be planned for the fall? TAMPA — It was easy Thursday to put a smile on the faces of Lightning players: ask about Wednesday's paintball battles.

Aaron Portzline: Columbus to hire Guy Boucher as head coach

According to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch, the Blue Jackets are set to hire Hamilton Bulldogs' head coach Guy Boucher as their new head coach for the 2010-11 season. If you wanted Boucher in New Jersey, then, sad to say, that's not happening.

Guy Boucher to Coach in Hamilton

Scratch one name who surely would have been in the mix for the Oilers' remaining assistant coaching gig.
