Canada lost to Slovakia this morning and will not be playing in the medal games. The Russian team squeaked out a win against Norway as well, meaning that Canada will finish 5th in the tournament. TeamUSA plays Finland beginning at 11:30am ET. If they win, they will go on to the Semifinals. (Winners in the semis play for the medals.)
Canada and the USA come in first and second in the Helsinki group. Russia and Sweden were first and second in the Stockholm group. Quarterfinals action begins Thursday. Canada (Teddy Purcell, Guy Boucher) will face Slovakia. USA (Nate Thompson, J.T. Brown) will face Finland. Sweden (Victor Hedman) will face the Czech Republic.
For those interested in watching some very good international hockey, you will be able to watch it on TV here this year - if you have the NHL Network here in the US.
Su Ring, from Daily Su, and I are talking hockey. This is a weekly event, so bookmark the link. Oh, and we also have a CCPT Facebook Group for you to join as well. We'll have announcements on that page, and hopefully people will be making comments and suggestions for future shows. So even if this isn't announced every week, we will be on every Sunday at 3 pm Pacific, 6 pm Eastern, 11 pm British. See you there!
Su Ring from Daily Su and I have started up our own hockey show. Join us for some discussions on the NHL, AHL, major junior leagues, international competition - basically, we'll cover whatever's going on as long as it's hockey-related. Su has already talked to some minor league hockey players that she's interviewed before, and they may stop in from time to time. For those who are new to this, there's a chat room going on as we broadcast, and you can download the podcast later if you miss it. (The chat room is only active and available during the broadcast, however.) Right now, the show is one hour long, but we may expand to two hours if there's enough of a demand. So from here on out, Su and I will be on every Sunday at 11 pm British / 6 pm Eastern / 3 pm Pacific. See you then!
Canadians still trumpet hockey as "our game" but that's just not the case anymore. Sure, it probably means more to Canadians but it’s not their sole property anymore. It’s Russia’s game. It’s Sweden’s game. It’s the Czechs’ game. It’s the Americans game.
It’s also Switzerland’s, and Slovkia’s and Finland’s and Latvia’s and Belarus’. Within the next ten-twenty years, it’ll be China’s game too.
