One of the common "needs" for the New Jersey Devils in recent seasons is a puck moving defenseman. I ask and try to answer the basic question: What exactly is a puck moving defenseman anyway?

The Tampa Bay Lightning have inked Brett Clark to a two-year contract. And with or without Paul Ranger, the team now has a puck-moving defenseman.

He left, and we wondered why. Paul ranger could be what the Lightning needs on he blue-line, but he's no longer a realistic option.
