Casualty of labor uncertainty: GM Yzerman said unless CBA deal done quickly, Lightning won't participate in a September prospect tournament
#tblightning are one of many teams interested in sought-after Dman Justin Schultz, GM Steve Yzerman hoping to get the chance to speak to him
"The trade market dictates what, if anything, we're going to do," Yzerman told the Tampa Bay Times earlier this week. "At this point there's nothing that makes any sense that is the right thing to do whether it's short or long term."
Vincent Lecavalier....clinched his 12th straight season of at least 20 goals. I don't think people appreciate how difficult it is to achieve that kind of consistency. Know who never had 12 straight 20 goal seasons? Mario Lemieux? Never had 12 straight, just 6. Mark Messier? Never had 12 straight, just 10. Steve Yzerman? Sorry boss, you never did it either. The best Stevie Y did was 8 straight seasons. And, remember, Vinny didn't play in the roaring 80's where the NHL looked like the QMJHL defensively.
"The thoughts and prayers of the entire Lightning organization go out to the family and friends of those involved in the tragic plane crash today in Yaroslavl, Russia. Even though it was thousands of miles away, today's events touched the hearts of our management, coaching staff and players. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Yaroslavl community as well as the KHL.
"On a personal note, hockey lost a great individual today in my former teammate and colleague, Brad McCrimmon. My deepest condolences go out to his family and friends during this difficult time."
I'd love to tell you the Capitals' general reaction [to the Bolts acquiring Roloson], because it was pretty funny. But the one word is somewhat unprintable on a family website. Let's just say they have a healthy respect for Roloson.
"They have the ability to play better and we need them to play better. We'll provide them the right environment to get better, and we'll keep sticking with this for the time being."
"Every team is in a different situation. They have their own goals and their own idea how they’re going to get there. Guy and his staff want to get to know their players, not just the ones that are on the team already but they want to work with our young players too. There’s a lot of work to be done. Having said that, we want to be a good team this year too and want to do everything we can to pick the best players to make this team the best we can put on the ice."
Yzerman said he spoke earlier this week to Ranger, who missed most of last season due to undisclosed personal issues. But Yzerman said Ranger "is not prepared to make a decision one way or another at this time." Ranger's agent also declined comment.
"It's always a surprise and a little bit of shock when a team you played for for 10 years asks you to move a no-trade clause," gagne said. "The deal with the Flyers was for me and my agent to talk to other teams. That was the only way were willing to do it.
"Tampa Bay was the team that was really interesting to myself and that's when we started talking to Steve Yzerman and we able to make something happen with them. I was willing to waive my no-trade clause only for Tampa Bay, not for other teams."
