Hockey fans, bloggers, and media people talk prospects all the time: Prep's from the north, junior leagues by way of Canada and Europe, or guys in collegiate hockey. It's often overlooked that prep hockey is ongoing in Florida and the Tampa Bay area itself.
For years now, the state has hosted junior hockey by way of the EJHL South. This goes along with the two respective high school ice hockey leagues: the Florida High School Hockey Association (representing the Tampa Bay area through the Lightning Conference) and the Florida Scholastic Hockey League (representing South Florida).
Thursday night at Times Palace, the FHSHA's Lightning Conference will have its 3rd annual championship game, pitting the East Lake High School Eagles against the Jesuit High School Tigers at 7:30 PM. Admission is free.
Can't make it to the game and want to check out what Florida hockey players are capable of? The game will be streamed live on Tampa Live Sports.
The official release from the Lightning regarding this game is below the jump.
