To say that the Lightning started this game slowly would be a bit of an understatement. In the middle of the first, they gave up three goals in 4:12. At which point, starter Mathieu Garon was replaced by Cedrick Desjardins in net.
Despite Desjardins giving up a goal 2:49 after he got into the game, he ended up with a pretty solid performance. That was the only goal he allowed in the just over two periods of game time that he played. Whether it was the goalie or the wakeup call of switching goalies that made that happen is debatable.
The good news was that Desjardins was able to keep the Lightning in the game. The bad news is that the comeback didn't start until just after the halfway point of the third period.
Rookie Tyler Johnson, in just his fifth NHL game, started things off with two goals that were 2:36 apart. Just over four minutes later at 18:01, Teddy Purcell scored to bring the Lightning within a goal. But that was a close as the Lightning came to the comeback as Ottawa scored an empty net goal in the final 30 seconds or so of the game.
The next game is tomorrow, 24 March, at the Winnipeg Jets. Game time is later than usual, as it's 8 pm ET. The Raw Charge game thread will be available at 7:30 pm. Hope to see you then.
