A previously scheduled invite-only event at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg will be where the next Tampa Bay Lightning team captain is unveiled to the public.

We had our Stamkos / St. Louis articles that ran on Raw Charge this week, and it's been known for abbot a week that the Tampa Bay Lightning didn't plan to unveil who would be the next franchise captain until after the conclusion of the 2013 preseason.

Now, we know when we'll find out - if not whom it will be.

Damian Cristodero at the Tampa Bay Times reported Saturday afternoon that the team planned to announce the new team captain at a previously-scheduled invitation-only event at the Mahaffey Theater in downtown St. Petersburg on October 1st.

There's a "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" joke in here somewhere... Perhaps it's the fact that the two leading candidates for the Lightning team captaincy (Steven Stamkos and Martin St. Louis) have golden tickets? The fact there are other candidates out there, but they will have the chance to find their ticket during the preseason. Whatever the case, Mr. Wonka opens his chocolate factory on October 1st.

The captaincy has been vacant since Vincent Lecavalier was bought out by the club over the summer. Lecavalier has since signed with the Philadelphia Flyers.
