As anyone who tried to stream a Syracuse Crunch game last year knows, the results were sometimes unpredictable. The team's main AM station, The Score1260, was sometimes unreliable, and local Crunch fans often complained about the lack of FM radio support for a proven hockey team.
Well, hopefully a lot of that has changed now. The Syracuse Crunch and Galaxy Communications announced today that ESPN CNY Radio, which is FM station 97.7/100.1 in the CNY area, will carry all 76 Crunch games this up-coming season. The games will also be heard on their Syracuse AM station, 1200.
Their website isn’t carrying any of the news yet, but there’s a "Listen Live" streaming link on the left-hand side of their website. Their Twitter has re-tweeted the news. It sounds as though different promotions will also be run through Galaxy Communications, and the reactions I’ve seen around Twitter from different people have been extremely positive.
Todd Cross, the Senior Director of Ticket Sales for the Crunch, tweeted this about the news:
"@SyracuseCrunch: ESPN Radio & Galaxy Communications will carry #SyrCrunch games this season!" Best radio partner in team history! #excited
Mike Folsom, a former front office member and big fan of us here a CH, had this to say:
Two big masterminds in @HowardDolgon and Ed Levine will lead to some interesting things for @SyracuseCrunch. Great partnership.
Chris McManus from the station threw in his own welcome:
Welcome @SyracuseCrunch to the FM dial. Puck drops on @ESPNCNY in one month.
Finally, Brent Axe, who has been a supporter of both the Crunch and our work here for a long time, had this nugget:
Going to be a lot of fun things coming for Crunch fans. They deserve it.
This is really exciting for us as a fan base and for those who listen from afar. It’s been a long time coming and I can’t wait to see the results. I really think this will help the team to better market their brand and get themselves out there to more people. I'm really hopeful their coverage will be more reliable!
