A couple of contract signings, closure in the civil case between Steve Moore and Todd Bertuzzi, and plans for the Elmira Jackals to become community-owned make up our Quick Strikes for your Friday morning.

  • The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed gritty forward Daniel Carcillo to a PTO contract. Carcillo most recently played for the New York Rangers. [Pensburgh]

  • Akim Aliu, a 2007 draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks, has been through a lot in his professional hockey career. He is most famous for his incident with his former OHL teammate (and former Bolt) Steve Downie after refusing to participate in hazing. He also has been subject to racism, which is still very much an issue in hockey. [AP Hockey]
  • The Elmira Jackals of the ECHL have unveiled plans to become a community-owned team. [The Star Gazette]

  • Finally, the Moore-Bertuzzi saga seems to have come to an end. Former Colorado Avalanche forward Steve Moore (former Bolt Dominic Moore's brother) said in a statement today that the case relating to a career-ending play was settled. [Pro Hockey Talk]
  • Tyson Barrie, son of former Tampa Bay Lightning owner Len Barrie, has signed a two-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche. [Colorado Avalanche Official Site]
  • Off the subject of hockey but still on the subject of pro-sports: Sometimes fans complain about parking fees at Lightning games, or at Tampa Bay Rays games, or Tampa Bay Buccaneers games, or sporting events across the country for that matter.
