The Bolts

Coach Jon Cooper has an interesting way of describing Victor Hedman’s offensive production. “When he has the puck, he’s extremely hard to defend, because he’s somebody who jumps in from the rush. So now you’re absorbing somebody that’s a 6’6” gazelle coming at you and that’s hard to do.”

Retired U.S. Air Force Technical Sgt. Sonya Bryson-Kirksey is more than just the voice of the national anthem at Lightning games, she is also a true public servant. “Sonya was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, commonly known as (MS), just before her military career ended. Now, she has dedicated much of her life to lifting her voice for those battling the same disease.” [ABC Action News]

In honor of Veterans Day, several Bolts took to social media to express their gratitude for the U.S. Armed Forces.

If you know any kids who want to learn about hockey, the Bolts are hosting a free event today. “The Tampa Bay Lightning will participate in USA Hockey's Try Hockey For Free Day this Saturday, November 12 at multiple ice rinks across the state, as part of Come Play Hockey Month.” [Tampa Bay Lightning]

Good news for Lightning fans living in St. Petersburg. “The Cross-Bay Ferry, the area's newest form of public transportation, exceeded expectations during its first days open to the public last weekend.” [Tampa Bay Times]

The Game

Russia defeated Team OHL 4-3 in Game 3 of the Canada-Russia Series. Team OHL features five Lightning prospects: Anthony Cirelli, Boris Katchouk, Taylor Raddysh, Matt Spencer, and Mitchell Stephens. [CIBC Canada-Russia Series]

Carolina Hurricanes forward Bryan Bickell was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. "Obviously this is a bit of shock for my family and me, but I am hopeful I will be able to return to the ice and continue playing the game that I love." We wish Bickell and his family all the best. San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns is a pending unrestricted free agent facing questions about his future. Steven Stamkos was in the same position last year and believes Burns can handle the pressure. “‘He just loves the game and is always trying to get better.’ Stamkos said of Burns. ‘If there’s a guy that can deal with something like that, it’s him.’” [The Mercury News]

On a lighter note, here’s Toronto Maple Leafs forward Tyler Bozak getting a smile out of his son during warm-ups.
