Good news everyone! Otto Sompii spent the beginning of the QMJHL season on the shelf recovering from surgery, but the past few weeks he’s been skating and getting ready, and on Friday he made his season debut. The first game was shaking the rust off but by the next night he was our old Otto again, scoring three points and leading the Mooseheads to victory over the Screaming Eagles.

In international news, two baby Bolts were selected to play for Team WHL in the CHL Canada/Russia series. The series is a six-game playoff between the three CHL leagues and prospects for the Russian World Junior team.

The first two games are against Team WHL, and Cal Foote and Brett Howden will suit up for the Dub this year. Their games take place November 6 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and November 7 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

After that the series moves to the OHL. If I had to guess, I’d say we’ll see Taylor Raddysh and Boris Katchouk play there.

Update: I was right! Raddysh and Katchouk will both represent the Bolts on Team OHL. They will play on November 9th in Owen Sound, ON and November 10th in Sudbury, ON. Check out CHLCanadaRussia.ca for streaming info closer to game time. All games will be broadcast in Canada on Sportsnet and TVA Sports.

Congrats to Howden and Foote! Represent the WHL well!
