The Tampa Bay Lightning and general manager Steve Yzerman have announced that they have traded Jonathan Drouin and a conditional 2018 sixth-round draft pick for defenseman Mikhail Sergachev and a conditional 2018 second-round draft pick from the Montreal Canadiens. The conditions? If Sergachev doesn’t play more than 40 games in 2017-18, then the Lightning get a 2nd round pick in exchange for a 6th round pick.
The Montreal Canadiens hopped immediately onto Jonathan Drouin’s contract, believing in him enough to sign him to a five-year contract extension for 5.5M/year. He will wear #72 (bye bye, #27). We all suspected that this would be his ask, and were not sure how Steve Yzerman would fit him in under the salary cap.
Well, question answered.
