In the wake of Hurricane Irma, the Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, NHL, and NHL Players Association have combined to donate $2.7 million in disaster relief. “Hurricane Irma recently impacted the entire state of Florida as it hit the Florida Keys as a Category 4 storm over the weekend. Since, it’s caused massive destruction and has left approximately 6.5 million Florida residents without power.” [SB Nation]
J.T. Brown has all of his priorities straight, if you ask me.
Well I thought the generator @JTBrown23 just bought was so that we could eat... until I found out it was national video game day.— Lexi LaFleur Brown (@lexilafleur) September 12, 2017
Tampa Bay Lightning training camp will begin on schedule, opening Thursday, September 14th at Amalie Arena. “Thursday is the scheduled opening of camp, with testing and media day at Amalie Arena. Friday is the first full day on the ice.” [Tampa Bay Times]
Nashville defeates Tampa Bay by a score of 5-4 in the final match between the two rookie teams. “The Bolts added two more of their own to make it a one-goal game [5-4], but Predators netminder Jake Paterson held off the rest of the push to get the win.” [NHL dot com]

Where does the Syracuse Crunch’s old barn rank in terms of oldest Triple-A facilities in North America? Hint: War Memorial is in the top 5 and an AHL rival is in the first spot. “The Syracuse Crunch and Onondaga County are putting the finishing touches on a lease that would tie the team to the War Memorial for at least 12 more seasons, through 2030. At that point, the building would be almost 80 years old.” [Syracuse]
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet has released his first 31 Thoughts ever, and first NHL news and notes article of the 2017-18 season. It contains a treasure trove of information about every team around the league on a weekly basis. “It seems certain Colorado could make a deal with Columbus very quickly. [Joe] Sakic knows what Columbus is willing to offer, but they don’t like it enough.” [Sportsnet]
In a promotional video for the new NHL18 video game, Connor McDavid, who will be on the cover this year, dresses up as several archtypes of NHL fans. Analytics nerd Allen is by far my favourite. “The fidget spinner at the end is also the perfect reminder that despite his success, he’s still just a kid who probably didn’t play an NHL video game until mid-2000s.” [Puck Daddy]
