In the wake of the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in Parkland, Florida, our in-state and Atlantic Division rivals the Florida Panthers have done some pretty remarkable outreach on behalf of the school, and specifically their varsity hockey team. In hockey, this is pretty much the standard to which we have become accustomed. Our rivalries are fierce and competitive but when it comes to things that really matter, our bond as members of The Hockey Family transcend any hard feelings that may result from what happens on the ice. For that, we say good job, Panthers.
Further illustrating this bond, members of the Lightning and Panthers organizations worked together recently on a construction project for Habitat for Humanity to help restore the community of Immokalee, which was severely impacted by Hurricane Irma.
Of course, in recent years we’ve gotten used to our beloved home team performing various acts of good throughout the Tampa Bay community. So many different things, that we’re wondering what is your personal favorite. This isn’t to take away from the Panthers or what anybody else around the league is doing. But this is a blog covering the Tampa Bay Lightning for Tampa Bay Lightning fans so that’s our primary focus. Also, it’s nice to be able to feel good about a team you support beyond their W/L performance. Let’s exult in that a little bit, shall we?
