Tampa Bay Lightning prospects report: The Greyhounds sweep, the Rockets get swept

Cal Foote joins the Crunch as Raddysh and Katchouk aim for a quick trip to the Championship.

Terry Wilson / OHL Images

We mentioned this earlier, but defenseman Cal Foote has signed his entry-level contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning, and will now be joining the Syracuse Crunch. His Kelowna Rockets were eliminated from the WHL playoffs.

In the OHL, the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds swept the Saginaw Spirit, so Katchouk and Raddysh are resting up to be ready for their next victim.

The Q hasn’t been as friendly to prospects, as both Somppi and Barré-Boulet missed some games to end their first round series.

Sammy Walker IS in the USHL, which goes to show how much I know.

March 28th: @ Saginaw Spirit
W 5-3 - 3G, 0A, +1 / 0G, 0A, -1

Despite being a bunch of ‘hot dogs,’ the Greyhounds swept Saginaw as expected. Katchouk had a hat trick in the final game, but Raddysh couldn’t keep up. Next up: The Owen Sound Attack.

#89 - Otto Somppi (F)

Defeated Baie-Comeau 4-1

Somppi was injured in game two and missed the rest of the series with an upper body injury. He’s skating but no one has said for sure if he’ll be back for round two.

Alex Barré-Boulet (F)
Blainville-Boisbriand Armada
Swept series vs Val d’Or Foreurs

March 28th: @ Val d’Or Foreurs

ABB missed two games for undisclosed reasons, and it’s hard to get news out of the Q. If your google skills are better than mine, please help a guy out. Hopefully he’s back for round two.

Trail series vs Prince Albert 1-0

L 5-4 - No Points
April 3rd vs Prince Albert Raiders
W 5-4 - 0G, 0A, -2

The Prince Albert Raiders almost completed the Cinderella story, but took too many penalties in game seven allowing the Moose Jaw Warriors to take round one as many expected. There were plenty of lessons to take away from this game, so hopefully some learning is done before round two.

#25 - Cal Foote (D) - 0G, 2A, -3
Kelowna Rockets
Swept in the first round by the Tri-City Americans

March 28th: @ Tri-City Americans
L 5-3 - 0G, 1A, -1
March 30th: @ Tri-City Americans
L 5-3 - 0G, 1A, -2

The Rockets were upset with a sweep by the Americans. No one expected a Greyhounds- style domination from Kelowna, but to be swept is something else. Congrats to Foote on his new contract with the Lightning, as well!

USHL

#19 - Cole Guttman (F)
Dubuque Fighting Saints

Guttman is on IR for the foreseeable future.

#14 - Nicklaus Perbix (D) - 1G, 1A, +4
Omaha Lancers - 34-16-2-3
3rd in Western Conference, 2 points out of 1st

March 30th: @ Muskegon Lumberjacks
W 4-2 - 0G, 0A, +2
March 31st: @ Muskegon Lumberjacks
W 3-2 - 1G, 1A, +2

The Lancers have five games left in the season, and they’ll need to run the table to take first over all in such a competitive conference. No matter what seed they get, they’ll have their work cut out for them in the conference.

#26 - Sammy Walker (F) - 1G, 1A, +1
Sioux City Musketeers - 24-23-4-3
7th in Eastern Conference

March 30th: vs Tri-City Storm
W 5-2 - 0G, 1A
March 31st: vs Des Moines Buccaneers
W 5-1 - 1G, 0A, +1

The scoring isn’t as high in the USHL for Sammy, but he’s getting one point a game. His team’s standing isn’t as high either, with the Musketeers eliminated from the playoffs.
