The return to Amalie Arena after a two week road trip didn’t go well for the Tampa Bay Lightning. The best team of the last regular season was defeated by the best team of the current regular season - the Colorado Avalanche. Despite playing solid in the first period, the Lightning allowed three goals during a three minute stretch in the second period and couldn’t save the gam.e [Raw Charge]
Whatever this game was, Tampa Bay needs to expunge it from their collective memory. This was one of those games. It’s frustrating that it came against a team on a back-to-back and playing their backup goaltender, but that doesn’t mean a win is a guaranteed thing. Shake this game off and get back to work so you don’t get embarrassed by Pittsburgh on Wednesday night in prime time.
Pavel Francouz played just his fourth game in the NHL, but his 44 stops were a key factor for the Avs victory.
Shattenkirk said Francouz was a difference maker for Colorado. "Credit to him for making some big saves for sure, especially...some saves in the 1st and early in the 2nd that were huge. We’ve just got to find a way to get those by him and obviously it’s a different ball game.”— Bryan Burns (@BBurnsNHL) October 20, 2019
Jon Cooper’s interview after Saturday night’s loss:
It wasn’t a good day for the Tampa Bay Lightning organization in general. The Syracuse Crunch lost their first home game of the season to the defending Calder Cup champion Charlotte Checkers. [Raw Charge]
Perhaps next season the Syracuse Crunch will make sure not to open their home schedule with the Charlotte Checkers. After dropping a 4-1 decision a year ago, the Crunch played even worse this year as they lost 6-3 to a team that had been throttled the night before by the Utica Comets. Four first period goals silenced a raucous Syracuse crowd that was hoping for a much better outcome in the Crunch’s 26th home opener.
Some positive things happened too: Alex Volkov returned to the lineup after missing the first few weeks of the season due to injury and the 2018-19 North Division Champions banner was raised before the game at the War Memorial Arena.
As you might have guessed, the Orlando Solar Bears finished their game without any points too.

Finishing the prospect section on a high note: Sammy Walker scored his third goal of the season and helped the Gophers to defeat Niagara.
The Atlantic division rival Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins met last night for the first time since Playoffs. This time, the Leafs were better and got an overtime win thanks to a Morgan Rielly goal.
After a fast start, the Philadelphia Flyers couldn’t continue the success and lost four games in row. The Dallas Stars are the latest team to beat them. Corey Perry scored his first goal for the Stars.
Jack Hughes scored his first goal in the NHL and helped his team to a win against the Vancouver Canucks and his older brother Quinn
Hello my name is Jack Hughes and I just scored the first goal of my NHL career and it was a beauty.— Amanda Stein (@amandacstein) October 19, 2019
It was their first meeting on the professional level.
Good luck bro.— Vancouver Canucks (@Canucks) October 19, 2019
