The Bolts

The Tampa Bay Lightning were defeated in the second game of the season, in which they controlled the game, but allowed three goals during a five minutes stretch in the second period and couldn’t recover. [Raw Charge]

The Lightning will have a tough time accepting this one. The Panthers played well enough but most of the problems for the Bolts tonight were self inflicted. They got themselves out of sorts with penalties and the game changed completely during that stretch of the second period.

Jon Cooper has also expressed disappointment.

The Prospects

The Orlando Solar Bears lost in overtime against the Florida Everblades. That was the last preseason game, the new season starts on October 13 against the South Carolina Stingrays.

The Game

Mika Zibanejad scored three goals and the New York Rangers defeated the Ottawa Senators 4-1 on a Saturday night. Zibanejad now leads the NHL with 8 (4+4) points in two games.

The Toronto Maple Leafs lost to the Montreal Canadiens despite leading 4-1 in the third period. Auston Matthews now has five goals in three games.

Despite having a very good offseason, the New Jersey Devils still couldn’t find their game. Yesterday, they were destroyed by the Buffalo Sabres 7-2. Sam Reinhart scored twice and Rasmus Dahlin had a three assists night.

After Sergei Bobrovsky leaving, the Columbus Blue Jackets have struggled to find a right person to serve in net. Last night, they conceded seven goals to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Evgeni Malkin was injured and Sidney Crosby got in a fight.

In a 2019 Stanley Cup first round rematch. the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Washington Capitals. Jake Gardiner scored his first goal for the Canes.

If you’re wondering how Jaromir Jagr is doing, he scored two goals against HC Bílí Tygři Liberec, one of the best teams in Czech Extraliga. Jagr now has four goals in five games.

The Athletic wrote a good article about his new life in his hometown in Czech Republic [The Athletic, paid content]

Jagr’s face is on the outside of the arena in at least seven different places. A giant portrait of Young Jagr overlooks the greenery surrounding the rink, Dallas Jagr stares out from the door of the team store and Grizzled Jagr with the Kladno Knights logo is plastered just about everywhere else. His JagrTeam equipment line is sold on the premises and advertised on the boards. He’s not just a player, not just an owner. He’s nearly the entire business model.
