Tampa Bay Lightning vs. St. Louis Blues: Game 76

Location: Enterprise Center

Broadcast/Streaming: Fox Sports Sun, FOX Sports Midwest

Opponent SBNation Site: St. Louis Game Time

It’s been more than 20 games since the last meeting between these teams. In February, The Blues neutralized the Lightning’s offense and the outcome was decided only by an overtime goal. That game was in the middle of the Bolts’ incredible 12-game winning streak.

Since that time the Blues have cooled off a bit, but still comfortably in a playoff spot. They scored 12 goals in their two last games, outscoring the Oliers and the Red Wings. Vladimir Tarasenko returned from his injury, but hasn’t scored yet. He has pretty good stats against the Bolts - 10 points in 11 games. St. Louis it still missing two of their blueliners: Joel Edmundson and Carl Gunnarsson.

The Tampa Bay Lightning also won’t play with their best roster. Anton Stralman is going to miss the last game of the road trip but is still listed as day-to-day. Dan Girardi is out indefinitely. Yanni Gourde has been suspended after an illegal hit to the head in the last game against the Carolina Hurricanes and will miss two games.

That means Ryan Callahan remains in the lineup and takes his place at right wing on the fourth line. Cameron Gaunce is still up with the Bolts and probably will be scratched with Danick Martel.

Speaking of numbers, the Lightning continue to set new records: they need five wins in the last seven games to beat the 1995-96 Red Wings for the most wins in the NHL history. The Bolts also still have a chance to beat the Canadiens for the most points in a single season, but they need to take 13 points over the last seven games. That would mean not losing in regulation anymore this regular season and even for this team, that seems unlikely.

The Lightning are currently on a seven-game winning streak, which is tied for the third longest streak for the team this season. The Blues are one of the most complicated opponents for the Bolts and the only team in the league against whom the Bolts haven’t scored yet this season.

After tonight’s game, The Bolts will return home for two games at Amalie arena. That will be their homestand of the regular season.
