There is a certain tradition in the JustinG. household. Every year, about a week or so before the regular season kicks off, I dust off my commemorative copy of the 2004 Stanley Cup Championship DVD and give it a watch. It helps get me in the mood for the upcoming season and reminds me of what a good time it is to celebrate a championship.
Well, at some point in the next couple of months, I’ll be able to add another video to watch as the Tampa Bay Lightning 2020 Stanley Cup Champions presented by Cinedigm and NHL Original Productions.
Scheduled to release on December 15th (just in time for your holiday shopping) the 70-minute film will go behind the scenes of the most unique Stanley Cup playoffs of all time and feature exclusive coverage of the team as they battled their way through the playoffs. It will be available as a Blu-Ray Combo (with additional features), DVD, and digital.
This doesn’t appear to be just a repackaged set of highlights from the Lightning’s march through the playoffs. Instead, it’s a look at some unique aspects of hockey played inside the bubble. There will be features off the ice (a Kevin Shattenkirk vs. Braydon Coburn pickleball match should be fun) and on the ice (more mic’d up player features).
“The entirety of the 2019-20 season and this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs is certainly an unforgettable one, but we will always remember the Tampa Bay Lightning’s impressive on-ice performance,” said Steve Mayer, NHL Chief Content Officer. “This film shows every step of this unusual season. Having been in the bubble with the Lightning, this team was focused and wanted the Stanley Cup so much this year. This film will honor all of the people and moments that made this historic season possible.”
There will also be vinaigrettes about the things that were unique in 2020 including footage of how the league conducted the extensive cleaning and sanitizing of the arenas where the games were held. A video of Barclay Goodrow reuniting inside the bubble with his mother and father is also part of the package.
To whet your appetite here is an exclusive trailer of the film:
The video will be on sale December 15th throughout the Tampa Bay market, everywhere films are sold, on NHLShop.com and Amazon. If you eschew actual physical products, don’t worry it’s available via streaming as well through Apple, Prime Video, VUDU, Google Play, and others.
