Vegas Golden Knights at Tampa Bay Lightning: GAME 53

Time: 7:00 pm Eastern Time

Location: Amalie Arena

Broadcast/Streaming: SUN, ATTSN-RM, TVAS

Opponent SBNation Site: Knights On Ice

Preview:

The Tampa Bay Lightning return to Amalie Arena tonight having swept the California road trip and look to open up their three game homestand with a win over Vegas tonight.

Although they were outshot by two of the Californian teams last week, the Lightning remained resilient and opportunistic. Steven Stamkos extended his point streak to seven games against San Jose and now has six goals and six assists in that stretch.

Meanwhile, Vegas won their last two games as well, in a back-to-back situation against Carolina and Nashville. Despite missing two of their top forwards due to injury (William Karlsson and Cody Glass), they’ve continued to roll and are one of the top possession teams in the entire NHL.

While the Atlantic Division is more spread out in terms of teams and points, the Pacific couldn’t be tighter. Three points separate second place in the division with the second wildcard spot (and both West wildcards are currently held by Pacific teams). As well as they’ve played lately, the Golden Knights desperately need points if they want to keep pace with the other teams in their division.

Tampa has widened their lead on second place in the Atlantic with their sweep of California — they sit six points up on Toronto. But they’re still five points back of Boston and they’re running out of games in hand. Still, their success out on the west coast was encouraging, and hopefully they can build off of that when the puck drops tonight.
