It looks like the Tampa Bay Lightning were heading towards another overtime game in the playoffs. After squandering another two-goal lead, this time against the Boston Bruins, time was ticking down and their offense wasn’t generating much pressure.
Enter Yanni Gourde and Tyler Johnson. Gourde found a bit of a seam at the Bruins blue line and took the puck wide. He let a shot go from the left circle and Tuukka Rask made a left-pad save. The problem with that is that it kicks the puck out into a dangerous spot.
Tyler Johnson beat the Bruins backcheckers to the puck and slammed it home past the Boston netminder. The Lightning grabbed the 3-2 lead and held on over the last 90 seconds for the victory. For Johnson it was his 8th career game-winning goal in the playoffs. That ties him with Marty St. Louis for the franchise lead.
