Injuries are a Grinch

Every Bolt down in Tampa

Liked the Bolts a lot…

But the Grinch, who liked injuries,

Did not!

Now please don’t ask why. No one quite knows the reason.

It could be his own team wasn’t playing just right.

It could be, perhaps, that his helmet’s too tight.

But I think that the most likely reason of all,

May have been that his skates were two sizes too small.

Whatever the reason, his helmet or team,

He stood there at Amalie

Concocting his scheme.

He stared down from his box with a sour Grinchy fret,

At the oft-lighted goal horns below by the net,

He knew every Bolts fan in Amalie, for sure,

Was busy now chanting and watching them score.

So, he called his goon, Tom,

And he called his friend, Brad

And he gave them the green light

To give all that they had.

These all-stars, he said, are the first ones we’ll show.

Then he opened the door and he let his goons go.

"More slew foots and trips and

Boarding, you see,

Add unfair fighting and then knee-on-knee."

And the Grinch went back up to his box in the sky

And waited to see if the Bolts’ fans would cry.

They’ll find out right now that their playoffs are dashed

The Bolts fans, he said, will have their hopes trashed.

They’re just finding out. I know what they’ll do.

Their mouths will hang open a minute or two,

Then the Bolts down in Tampa will all start to boo.

Then a sound began rising that started off low;

This sound wasn’t sad and it started to grow!

Every Bolt down in Tampa, the tall and the small

Was chanting without many all-stars at all.

He hadn’t stopped the Bolts from winning. Wins came!

Somehow or other, wins came just the same!

And the Grinch, with his grinch-feet cold in his skates

Stood puzzling and puzzling, "How could this be fate?"

"Wins came without Cernak!

Wins came without Kuch.

Wins came without Pointer, Cirelli (now back)!"

And he puzzled three hours, till his puzzler was sore.

Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before!

"Maybe winning, he thought, doesn’t rely on one man,

Maybe winning’s a team bond, the belief that you can.

That minute he knew -- "Next man up" is a thing!

And he started to believe in a Stanley Cup Ring.

So, he joined in the chants and he cheered them by name!
And he himself, the Grinch, pressed the coils at the game!
