Coy Conacher traded by Islanders to Vancouver Canucks

Cory Conacher has a special place in the hearts of some of us; an undrafted collegiate free agent signing who earned a cult follwoing for great play with the Norfolk Admirals (and later the Syracuse Crunch) before making his debut with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2013.

But 2013 saw his teammates form Norfolk and Syracuse join him in Tampa and soon something happened that no one necessarily expected – he became expendable. Coancher was dealt to Ottawa for Ben Bishop. He was waived last season around this time and claimed by the Buffalo Sabres, became a unrestricted free agent after the season and signed a one-year deal with the New York Islanders… Got waived and demoted to the AHL…

Now he’s been traded to the Vancouver Canucks. Odds are that Conacher will be playing for the Utica Comets and not the NHL franchise. Conacher has 5 goals and 17 assists with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers since his demotion. Vancouver sent an AHL forward in exchange for Cory.
