Erik Condra named new captain of Syracuse Crunch

When it became apparent that former Crunch captain Luke Witkowski had found a permanent home in Tampa, there was an enormous void left on the War Memorial ice as well as in the locker room. Fans clamored for a new leader to be named to help drive the team down the stretch. On Friday evening, their calls were answered.

Syracuse head coach Ben Groulx announced that veteran journeyman Erik Condra would bare the “C” on his chest for the rest of the 2016-2017 campaign. It’s been a whirlwind year for the 30 year old Trenton, Michigan native since being demoted to the Salt City by the Bolts at the start of the season. Despite constant travel between cities due to recalls, Condra has been a consummate professional, keeping his head up and playing hard the whole way through. In 42 games played with the Crunch this year, Condra has hit the back of the net 12 times to go along with 26 assists for a season total of 38 points.

Condra becomes the 20th full time captain in team history and the third since the Lightning came to town in 2012. Crunch fans will get to see their new captain in action tonight when they host the Albany Devils who are just behind the Crunch in the North Division standings.
