Jake Dotchin clears unconditional waivers
The plot thickens as the defenseman goes unclaimed.
After being placed on unconditional waivers with the purpose of termination for a “material beach” of contract yesterday at noon, Jake Dotchin has not been picked up by any of the 30 other NHL teams and has cleared waivers.

Tampa Bay Lightning waive Jake Dotchin citing “material breach of contract”
The sixth-round pick from 2012 for the Tampa Bay Lightning has been in the team’s doghouse for a while now. Dotchin was taken off all of the preseason rosters last year when he broke an “unspecified team rule” when he showed up to camp. The 24-year-old showed promise in some stretches last year, but ultimately fell out of favor with the team, playing in only nine of the last 32 games of the season and zero games after mid-March.
We should know soon whether Jake Dotchin clears waivers. No grievance filed yet but one agent I spoke w said they’d be shocked if NHLPA didn’t fight this. “Would open Pandora’s box,” on teams trying to terminate contracts due to conditioning. https://t.co/pFJRlxNYou

UPDATE:
Dotchin’s camp as well as the NHLPA are currently in a hold position until the Lightning officially do something with the contract. In the meantime, it sounds like Dotchin already has suitors around the league.
Several teams have reached out to Jake Dotchin’s reps since he’s cleared unconditional waivers. Dotchin camp keeping their options open. Still haven’t ruled out a grievance #TBLightning

In case it’s not already apparent, everyone should be following Joe Smith on twitter (but only after you follow us haha). He’s been completely on top of this story and has the best connections with the team.
