James Wright returned to Juniors

James Wright, the 19 year old forward who surprised all by making the Tampa Bay Lightning roster out of training camp, has been returned to his junior level team, the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League.

Affectionately referred to as “Killer” among the Raw Charge faithful, Wright was also a favorite of head coach Rick Tocchet for his scrappy play.

From the team’s press release:

“We are excited for James to get back to junior to continue his development. We feel the 20-plus minutes a night he receives there will be the best for his long-term growth,” (Lightning GM Brian) Lawton said. “He has made strides far greater than we projected this soon in his career and we look forward to seeing him continue that growth.”

This move coincides the claim of Nate Thompson off waivers from the New York Islanders earlier in the day.

There is likely another transaction looming in the coming days with the possible return of defenseman Paul Ranger to the Tampa Bay Lightning after his lengthy leave-of-absence for personal reasons.
