Kalamazoo Wings Trade For Adam Brace

In a continuing search for scoring, the Kalamazoo Wings made a trade with the Orlando Solar Bears on Monday. The Wings acquired forward Adam Brace in exchange for future considerations. Brace signed with Orlando in the off-season after spending last season in Germany, where he scored  63 points in 52 games with the Heibronn Falcons.

The Wings desperately need help on the offensive side of the game as they have only scored 33 goals in 15 games and recently were shut out in three straight games. Brace could provide that help as he has 116 points in 131 ECHL games. He had a breakout season in 2014-15 with the Florida Everblades where he scored 35 goals and added 37 assists in 71 games.

Brace went undrafted after playing four seasons at Robert Morris University.  The Ontario native put up 41 points in 38 games for the Colonials and was named NCAA (AHA) Second All Conference team. After college he signed with Florida and joined them in time for their playoff run in 2012-13. He signed with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL the next season and spent all year shuttling between the Checkers and the ECHL where he saw ice time with the Cincinnati Cyclones, Bridgeport Tigers and Stockton Thunder.

At 5’10 and 186 lbs., he isn’t a big powerful forward like recent addition Anthony Camara.  He relies on his excellent skating and vision on the ice to set up goals. It will be interesting to see where he plays with the Wings.  He should see some time on the power play as well on the top two lines.

His signing also brings some depth to the Wings should recent call-ups force Syracuse to sign one of their players. Some of the veteran forward depth Syracuse had at the beginning of the season has dwindled away thanks to injuries and recalls, a situation that could worsen should Erik Condra remain with the Lightning long-term. If they suffer another injury, the Crunch could look to their new affiliate to fill the hole.

Not only is he is a gifted player, he’s also a teacher of hockey. If you’re not sure about the three types of shots in hockey, well, Adam will show you.
