Kalamazoo Wings Weekend Preview

The Weekend Ahead:

Friday 10-21-16 – Home Opener against Fort Wayne Komets 7:00PM ET at the Wings Event Center

Saturday 10-22-16 – at Fort Wayne Komets 7:30pm ET

Preview:

The Kalamazoo Wings open up the home portion of their schedule on Friday against the Fort Wayne Komets. Both teams bring perfect 2-0 records into the weekend’s home-and-home series. The K-Wings were 3-1 on Friday and 3-0 on Saturday.

The Komets took the opposite approach by scoring their way to victory. They opened their season with a 6-2 thrashing of the Quad City Mallards.

Hey isn’t that…?

Lightning fans might recognize the name of the Komets starting goaltender – Pat Nagle. In 2011 the Lightning signed Nagle to a two-year deal after he finished playing at Ferris State University. He spent two seasons with the Florida Everblades and helped them win the Kelly Cup in 2012.

New Faces:

It was a busy week for the K-Wings equipment manager as three new players were added to the roster. Syracuse Crunch assigned Adam Comrie and Brian Hart to the team while on Wednesday they signed former first round pick Tyler Biggs.

Dueling Goalies:

With another back-to-back series the K-Wings will most likely split the starts between their two netminders.

One of the challenges Coach Nick Bootland faces is managing his goaltenders’ minutes throughout the season.

Team Leaders:

Goals – Six players tied with 1

Points – 3 – Michael Trebish (1 G 2A), Justin Taylor (3 A), Austin Wuthrich (3 A)

Wins – 1 – Joel Martin and Nic Riopel
