Lightning announce 2013 training camp schedule and roster

It's official. The 2013-14 season is getting underway with training camp starting on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. It will include those playing in the rookie tournament in Coral Springs this weekend, plus 38 other players.

From the Lightning:

Of those players invited to camp and not participating in Coral Springs, there are 20 forwards, 14 defensemen and four goaltenders. All of those players but three, Even Rankin, Drew Olson and Geoff Walker, spent at least some time in the Lightning system last season. The 62 players will be broken into three practice groups.

Players will begin medical and physical testing at 8 a.m. on September 11. Players will be available to the media once they have completed their testing and other obligations. They will hit the ice for the first time on Thursday, September 12 and Friday, September 13 with the following schedule (subject to change):

GROUP THOMAS

• 9 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. - Practice

GROUP BOWNESS

• 10:45 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. - Practice
• 11:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. - Flood
• 11:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. - Practice

GROUP GWOZDECKY

• 1:45 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. - Practice
• 2:30 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. - Flood
• 2:45 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. - Practice

If you want to attend, however, you'll have to do it on Thursday, as the Friday practice is closed. However, practices in Estero from Sept. 23 through Sept 28, surrounding the preseason game against the Florida Panthers, are open.

The Lightning rookies have completed their first game this afternoon, playing the Boston Bruins rookies to a 5-5 tie and tying the obligatory shootout as well.
