Lightning at Jets preview: Last game before the break

Lightning at Jets: Game 56

Time: 7 pm Eastern Time

Location: MTS Center

Broadcast/Streaming: SUN, Sportsnet

Opponent SBNation Site: Arctic Ice Hockey

Preview:

The Lightning and Jets are separated by one point in the overall league standings (the Bolts have one more). Despite both teams being in the bottom of their respective conferences, they’re trending in the opposite direction: The Lightning have earned five points in the last three games while the Jets have lost three straight.

Both teams are coming into tonight’s game on some even footing, in that they both played last night. The Lightning earned a point in a 2-1 shootout loss against the Wild, while the Jets lost 5-2 to the Blackhawks.

The Lightning are looking to end the back end of a back-to-back set on a high note so that they go into their bye week feeling a bit good about themselves, and about the season for the first time in who knows how long. Basically, forever. The Lightning really had to rely on Andrei Vasilevskiy at certain points of Friday’s game, but played well as the game wore on, which is why that although the point was well earned, it was disappointing not to get the second one.

Vasilevskiy was outstanding, so the pressure is a bit on for Ben Bishop to deliver a strong performance. He’s coming off a shutout though, so depending on whether you think momentum exists in this type of thing, read into that however you will.

The game will be broadcast on Hockey Night in Canada, so all of Canada will be watching. Here’s hoping the Lightning give them something good to talk about.
