Lightning Round: Alex Barre-Boulet is back

And the Bolts assigned Cal Foote to the Syracuse Crunch for a conditional stint

Less than two weeks after Alex Barre-Boulet was placed on waivers and claimed by the Seattle Kraken prior the start of the 2021-22 NHL regular season, the Tampa Bay Lightning claimed him back after he was waived again. Barre-Boulet played in two games with Seattle, recording an assist in the first game against the Nashville Predators. In the last game against the Columbus Blue Jackets he played just nine seconds in the third period and was left out of the line-up for the next game against the Philadelphia Flyers. He averaged 8:39 in two games in the Kraken uniform.

The thing that makes me pause from thinking that Barre-Boulet would instantly get a shot on the first line is that he didn’t even earn a spot on the roster for opening day. He didn’t beat out Taylor Raddysh and Boris Katchouk. Even with his potential being higher than both players, he didn’t win a spot. Neither Raddysh or Katchouk have exactly dazzled so far, but Barre-Boulet had gotten much more of an NHL chance than either of those prospects had and he still failed to beat them in the training camp competition.

Assuming no other team behind them in the waiver priority order made a claim on Barre-Boulet, the Lightning can directly assign him to the Syracuse Crunch without placing on waivers again. However, Barre-Boulet could also be available for tonight’s game against the Colorado Avalanche.

In other news, the Lightning assigned defenceman Cal Foote to the Syracuse Crunch for a conditioning assignment. Foote missed the start of the regular season and majority of the offseason due to finger surgery. Yesterday he played his first game of the season against the  Rochester Americans.

Yesterday, the Crunch also signed forwards Tyler Bird and Tristin Langan and defenseman Jesse Lees to PTOs and the Lightning’s prospect Jaydon Dureau to an ATO.

Later that day, Dureau scored his first goal for the Crunch, opening the scoring in a game against the Amerks. Both Tyler Bird and Tristin Langan, who were signed to PTOs on the same day, assisted on that goal.

Unfortunately the Crunch were defeated 3-5 by the Amerks and are 1-1-1 at the start of the 2021-22 regular season.

The Buffalo Sabres suffered their first loss of the season against the Boston Bruins last night.  Linus Ullmark made 35 against his former team.

The San Jose Sharks remained unbeaten after four games, defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs yesterday.

The full results from yesterday. Connor McDavid recorded two assists, continuing leading the NHL in scoring with 13 points in five games. His Edmonton Oilers also leading the NHL in standings with five wins.
