It’s easy to get caught up in the “this player should have been in/this player doesn’t belong” hype (especially on social media), but instead of furthering that pointless debate, it’s better to just say congratulations to everyone that received that special call yesterday. It’s nice to be honored for a career dedicated to the sport of hockey.
Lightning / NHL News
Tampa Bay signs Gabriel Fortier [Raw Charge]
Personally I would love to see “Forts” claim a spot on the Lightning next season and add some speed an energy into the line-up (as well as a tough forecheck).
Erik Cernak Goal of the Year [Raw Charge]
The big fella gets his highlight of the year. Hardev did a good job of showing the value that Cernak brings to the line-up and why his contract extension should have decent value as it ages.

Congratulations to the Hershey Bears who defeated the Coachella Valley Firebirds in overtime in Game 7 to win the Calder Trophy. Mike Vecchione had the game-winner.

NHL Salary Cap will be set at $83.5 million [Chris Johnston]
Johnston is reporting that the cap will only go up $1 million this season. That’s long been the assumption, but there was some hope that a larger bump would happen this off-season. If all goes well this season there should be a significant increase next summer.
Leafs minority owner to sell portion of MLSE [The Hockey News]
Larry Tanenbaum is reportedly selling a portion of his stake in MLSE, the parent company that owns the Maple Leafs, the Raptors, Toronto FC, and Argonauts to OMERS, a pension plan for Ontario municipal workers. Sportico is reporting that the sale will be based on an $8 billion valuation of MLSE. Solid money if you can get it.
Updates on Milan Lucic, Alex DeBrincat, Pierre-Luc Dubois [The Athletic]
Pierre LeBrun goes over the rumors surrounding some of the bigger names that may be on the trade market this summer.
