Lightning Round: Steven Stamkos hits playoff milestone and JT Brown signs in Seattle

After last night’s 8-0 party against the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos moved into third place in all-time franchise playoff points. He passed former teammate Martin St. Louis who was on 68 points and is now sitting with 71. Stamkos is now behind his two teammates, Nikita Kucherov (122) and Victor Hedman (86) who both blasted by the record in the last two postseasons..

I think it would be a good time for me to repeat: Nikita Kucherov has 122 playoff points in 106 playoff games. Depending on your games played cutoff, he’s top 10 in playoff points per game in the entire NHL all time.

St. Louis’ tally in 63 games has also been caught by Ondrej Palat and Brayden Point, who each have 68 career playoff points. Palat has it in 108 games, while Point has it in only 60. I’m thinking the next game is going to be pretty nice.

Also in the top-10 of franchise scoring is Alex Killorn and Tyler Johnson, which just goes to show how incredible and sustained the success for this team has been. All the record books have been rewritten and it doesn’t feel like anyone’s going to stop them anytime soon. Knock on wood.

Mat Barzal was given five and a game for his late high hit on Jan Rutta. It’s unclear whether he’ll receive supplemental discipline from DoPS. It’ll be eight games if they mistake his name for Kadri or maybe a $5k fine, “maximum allowable under the CBA.”

JBB and the Lightning issued a statement mourning the sudden loss of former Lightning assistant GM Tom Kurvers, who played for the Devils, Leafs, and Islanders among other teams in the 80s and 90s.

Former Tampa Bay Lightning winger and fan favourite JT Brown has officially retired from playing hockey to now become the TV Color Analyst for the Seattle Kraken, alongside John Forslund.

Congratulations to JT and Dr. Brown!

The NHL has sent out two season schedules for 2021-22, one with the Winter Olympics as part of the season, and one without. The league is still negotiating with the IOC and IIHF over whether NHL players will go or not.

The Buffalo Sabres want as many as six pieces in return for Jack Eichel.

Here is the injury exemption list for the Seattle Expansion Draft. Marian Gaborik and Anders Nilsson are exempt for the Lightning, although both are UFAs and weren’t going to factor into the team’s decisions anyway.
