Today is Media Day, so there won’t be too much action happening on the ice, but we should find out the health of the players along with finding out how everyone spent their summer. The on-ice portion of training camp will start at 8:15 A.M. on Thursday over at the TGH IcePlex. For the full schedule head over to the Lightning’s website. The first preseason game will take place on Tuesday the 26th.

Three stars from the rookie showcase [Raw Charge]

We highlighted three players that caught our eye over the weekend.

Top 25 Under 25: #14 Eamon Powell [Raw Charge]

Eamon Powell was getting ready for his season as captain of the Boston College hockey team and wasn’t down in Estero. It could be a big season for the New York native who played for the Syracuse Nationals as a youth and could be suiting up for the Syracuse Crunch once his college career is over.

Mic’d up – Declan Carlile [Lightning YouTube]

In regards to Ethan Gauthier – “He’s pretty good. He’s pretty good.” Carlile will make a heck of a scout one day.

Solar Bears sign Alexandre Fortin [Orlando Solar Bears]

The forward had 33 points (14 goals, 19 assists) with the South Carolina Stingrays last season.

TRAAAAAADDDDE – Montreal trades Casey DeSmith [Eyes on the Prize]

Montreal flipped another piece they received in the Mike Hoffman trade with Pittsburgh earlier in the offseason. DeSmith is off to Vancouver with the Canucks sending Tanner Pearson and a 2025 third-round pick to the Canadiens. Pearson spent most of last season on LTIR with a wrist injury, but cleared his physical with the Canucks prior to the trade.

NHL Superstar Poll: Must-see players, rule changes, and more [ESPN]

Someone make sure Sidney doesn’t have another concussion as he said bringing the red line back as a rule change. I lived through the red line era. We don’t need it back, stretch passes and breakaways are fun. Kudas to Seth Jarvis wanting to subject refs to interviews following a game.

The NHL’s lost generation of Olympians [The Athletic]

Never seeing Victor Hedman or Andrei Vasilevskiy represent their country at the Olympics would be a shame. Hopefully, they can work something out before these guys (oh, and Connor McDavid I guess) retire.

Meet the Coyotes PTO players [Five for Howling]

It seems to be the year of the PTO as teams are handing them out like candy. Arizona has 11 (!) player signed to try-out contracts in camp this year. That seems like a lot. Is it a lot?

32 Thoughts What’s next for the Blue Jackets [Sportsnet]

Pretty sure no team wants to get the season started so that people can stop talking about the off-ice drama more than the Blue Jackets.
