The Tampa Bay Lightning announced the finalists for the 2024-25 Hall of Fame class on Thursday. Out of the group of eight individuals, two will be selected and honored during Alumni Weekend in the spring. Last season, Brad Richards and Dave Andreychuck joined the initial 2023 class of Marty St. Louis, Vincent Lecavalier, and Phil Esposito.

Two more members of the 2004 Stanley Cup team, Pavel Kubina and Nikolai Khabibulin, are among this year’s finalists. They are joined by Ryan Callahan, Ben Bishop, Brian Bradley, Rick Peckham, and Henry Paul. Bradley, Peckham, Paul, and Kubina were finalists in 2023 and 2024 while Bishop and Callahan were finalists last year.

A ten-member selection committee came up with the finalists list and will select the final nominees. Fans will have their say as the eleventh member of the committee via a vote through the Lightning app. One lucky fan who votes will receive two tickets to the Induction Ceremony as well as the Hall of Fame Game played over Alumni weekend (dates to be announced in the near future).

Our choices for induction this year? Kubina and Peckham

Hockey News!

NCAA lifts eligibility ban for CHL players [AP News]

There was a huge, if expected, announcement as the NCAA approved a rule that will allow players from the Canadian Hockey League to play at US colleges. It will take effect next season (August 1st) and will open up a huge base of talent for colleges. Previously, CHL players were deemed ineligible due to the fact that they received stipends for living expenses.

One added benefit is that players with college commitments will now be allowed to participate in rookie showcases, previously they could only attend the post-draft development camps. Lightning fans can look forward to seeing Ike Howard, Jack Harvey, and Jayson Shaugabay in game action against other teams next fall.

“They’re better without Steven Stamkos” That’s a bold statement, but true from a certain point of view. The top lines 5v5 play is definitely better, but the power play could use that ol’ one-timer from the circle.

It’s not too early to start thinking about Christmas, which means it’s not too early to start thinking about the World Junior Championships. Team USA and Team Canada are loaded this season, which means they will probably get knocked out before the gold medal game.
