Lightning Round: The Puppy Edition

There is a lot of disheartening news floating around in the world these days. There is also a lot of uncertainty right now. One thing that is neither disheartening or uncertain – dogs. So how about we kick things of with some good doggos?

Barclay Goodrow and Madison Kazarian have two new puppies. They are fostering them the Humane Society, but who knows, they may end up being permanent family members.

Harry Hedman (In the running for greatest dog name ever) has a couple of new roommates as well.

Not to be outdone on the cuteness scale – Reese not doesn’t get social distancing

As for actual hockey news? Well, there were a few things that happened on Monday. Sometimes a change of scenery works out best for a player. Case in point – former Lightning goaltending prospect Connor Ingram. After a difference of opinion he was traded to the Nashville organization last summer. With the Milwaukee Admirals he posted a career-high 21 wins, 1.92 GAA and .933 SV%. Those numbers were good enough to earn him a three-year contract with the Nashville Predators.

Also signing a contract on Monday? Our very own Allovimo!

Scott Wedgewood had a little fun as the Crunch took on the Iowa Wild in their third Virtual Game Day.

How did she do? Well, the Crunch named her the second star. If you want to watch all of the action, it was recorded on Twitch.

The NHL did release an update in regards to how the league is dealing with the current health crises.  As one would expect, most of the answers in regards to the timing of the season opening up were dependent on future developments. A couple of things to note, no matter how it all plays out they don’t want it to affect next season. Also, the self-quarantine for the players ends this Friday.  Once that is over “will be given to allowing the opening of Club facilities to Players in scheduled and coordinated small groups for voluntary training and Club care.”

Another day, and another league announced a cancellation. This time it’s the CHL who officially announced that the playoffs in their regional leagues as well as the Memorial Cup would not be held this season. The good news? If the AHL does fire back up, the Crunch could have the services of Gabriel Fortier.

Speaking of junior hockey, our friends at On the Forecheck had an interview with Johnathan Moran who is in charge of advanced stats and analytics for the Windsor Spitfires. The analytic community continues to grow and it will be interesting to see how teams use this data in developing prospect and young players.

Jonsing for some hockey? Well, I can’t conjure up any brand new games, but how about a classic midseason clash between the Blues and the Lightning circa 1999?

Your starting netminder for the Bolts? Kevin Hodson! And he’s still sporting his red Detroit pads. See Vincent Lecavalier on a line with Stephane Richer and Steve Kelly. See Jamal Myers and Tony Twist knock down everyone within a three foot radius of them. A defensive pairing of Cory Cross and Sergei Gusev? Why not? See goaltenders allowed to roam free behind their net and also see them sprawl to the ice after virtually every shot.
