Media jump-starts GM Search for Lightning

Erik Erlendsson at the Tampa Tribune has a list of potential general manager candidates for the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Of course, if you go elsewhere, you’ll hear that it’s a done deal that the Minnesota Wild‘s former brainstrust would be taking over in Tampa.

Some of the facts that need to be taken into thought is that no GM will be hired until their is a CEO in place.  It’s why I suggested earlier today that the CEO will ultimately guide the direction of the club.  It’s all moot until we know who the new CEO is.

Of course, that does not stop the speculation of the next GM for the Lightning, or the next head coach for the squad either.  And the truth is that the Bolts need to get things in order by late June in time to prepare for the draft and NHL free agency.  To go into either event with a makeshift front office could spell disaster for the Lightning off-season.

Names like Dave Nonis, Steve Yzerman, and even former Lightning GM Jay Feaster have their names in the mix.  More names will come to light in the coming days and weeks – especially after a CEO is penciled in.

Right now it’s just anyone’s guess who will be the next steward of Lightning roster.
