Mike Smith injured during training camp on Monday [UPDATED]

It was reported by several in attendance at Lightning training camp on Monday that goaltender Mike Smith left the ice while protecting his right hand.

Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune posted a little while ago that Smith’s right ring finger is taped up and he will be seeing a doctor this afternoon.

As it stands right now, Smith is scheduled to accompany the team to Dallas for tomorrow night’s exhibition matchup against the Dallas Stars. Cedrick Desjardins was slated to also travel with the team. How serious Smith’s injury is may alter that plan.

[Note by John Fontana, 09/20/10 5:29 PM EDT ]  Smith has been diagnosed with a fracture of the ring finger on his right hand.  He will be out at least a week.  That means no playing time during the trip out west this week.
