More dirt on changes to Tampa Bay Lightning uniforms / logo

So there’s been ample speculation here on Raw Charge, on message boards, and elsewhere around the web. Speculation about the planned changes to the Lightning uniform and logo for next season. You’d almost think this team wasn’t in playoff contention with the focus that has been on it instead of play as of lately.

In the print edition of the St. Petersburg Times today, Damian Cristodero mentioned the looming changes to Lightning apparel, but it was online in a report this afternoon that he went into detail about the changes that may be taking place:

The primary colors apparently will be blue (close to what is used now with the third jersey) and white. Sounds as if the color black, which has been the team’s prominent color, and the silver trim will be gone.

There was also talk of two different crest designs for home and away jerseys, and Steve Yzerman’s involvement in the process to formulate a new “classic” look… But that didn’t strike a chord in me like the color change did..

Look, I like the blue in the third jersey… But at the same time, I always associate the Lightning with the black and silver, White and blue that they’ve worn since 1992. We talked in November about traditions and the experience at Lightning games… But honestly, aren’t the colors of this team something to be endeared to? Not something to move away from?

Of course, after seeing things and seeing them being worn by the players, everyone’s opinion will change. With time, they’ll be more accepted… But right now I’m not too keen on losing black and silver.
