Kucherov and Johnson battle for position in Lightning franchise playoff scoring race

Entering Monday’s game, two of the Tampa Bay Lightning’s top playoff scorers so far have traded places in the Lightning’s franchise playoff scoring race. Tyler Johnson entered the playoffs with 21 goals, 21 assists and 42 points in 47 career playoff games. Nikita Kucherov came into the playoffs with 22 goals, 20 assists, and 42 points in 45 career playoff games.

Steven Stamkos and Victor Hedman are the next two players behind them in the franchise race coming in 15 goals, 20 assists and 35 points, and six goals, 31 assists, and 37 points respectively. Just behind those two are Alex Killorn and Ondrej Palat. After Palat, you have to go through a list of players no longer with the Lightning until you get to Ryan Callahan tied for 20th with four goals, eight assists, and 12 points.

For Johnson and Kucherov, they have a comfortable lead ahead of their teammates in the franchise rankings. And they have three pretty big names sitting in front of them: Brad Richards, Vincent Lecavalier, and Martin St. Louis.

St. Louis sits as the current leader for the Lightning with 33 goals, 35 assists. and 68 points over his 63 career playoff games for the Lightning. While he is in reach if the Lightning have a long playoff run, his mark likely will have to wait for another season. Richards and Lecavalier, however, are within easy striking distance.

Richards comes in third on the list with 18 goals, 29 assists, and 47 points over 45 games. The next player to go after Richards is Lecavalier. Lecavalier clocks in at 24 goals, 28 assists, and 52 points. Through two games in the playoffs, Kucherov and Johnson have closed the gap to one and two points respectively on Richards. Kucherov currently sports 46 points and Johnson is just behind him at 45 points. Lecavalier’s 52 points are also easily within reach possible even within the first round.

This playoffs, Kucherov has already tied for second place in the goals lead with Lecavalier as they both now have 24 goals. St. Louis sits atop that race with 33 goals. Johnson is also looking to overtake Lecavalier as he now sits at 23 goals. Killorn can also potentially pass Lecavalier with his 18 goals, which has tied Brad Richards’ mark for 5th overall.

Hedman is already the Lightning’s defenseman points leader and sits sixth in the overall totals. He is second in assists among all players, his 31 trailing St. Louis’ 35. Stamkos, Johnson, and Kucherov all sit tied for fifth in assists with 22 each. They have Lecavalier’s 28 and Richards’ 29 in sight as well.
