The Ottawa Senators have placed center Gabriel Dumont on waivers. The Tampa Bay Lightning lost Dumont to the Senators just prior to Thanksgiving when he was placed on waivers. Under the waiver rules, if no other team in the NHL claims Dumont, the Senators must offer Dumont back to the Lightning. At that point, the Lightning can assign him directly to the AHL.
Dumont has played 23 games for the Senators since being claimed scoring a goal and an assist for two points while playing 8:38 a night. It is unlikely that Dumont is claimed by another team and so the Syracuse Crunch can receive a nice boost from getting Dumont back. We’ll find out Wednesday shortly after noon if he has passed through waivers.
Dumont is in the first year of a two-year contract. The first season is a one-way contract for $650,000 where he makes the same salary in the NHL and AHL. Next season it changes to a two-way contract paying $650,000 in the NHL and $200,000 in the AHL with a guaranteed minimum of $300,000 for the year. Salary information courtesy of CapFriendly.com.
In perhaps a bit of spite after Ottawa claimed Dumont, general manager Steve Yzerman claimed Chris DiDomenico whom the Senators waived after claiming Dumont. The Lightning assigned DiDomenico to the Syracuse Crunch for three games on a “conditioning assignment” before placing him back of waivers where he went back to the Senators in the same manner we hope to receive Dumont back.
