Prospect Adam Erne signs entry level contract with Tampa Bay Lightning

Adam Erne is ecstatic for some reason. Well, he says exactly why he is ecstatic via Twitter:

Without an official press release from the team, its spreading fast that Erne has signed his entry level contract with the Lightning.

Erne, a second round draft pick in 2013, plays left wing and spent last season with the Quebec Ramparts of the QMJHL. He’s notable to Lightning fans for being the guy who concussed Jonathan Drouin during a game against the Halifax Mooseheads earlier this season. Erne notched 21 goals and 41 assists in 48 games with Quebec this season.

Twitter chatter suggests Erne will be assigned to the Syracuse Crunch immediately and will participate in team practice tomorrow. Again, none of this has been confirmed by the Lightning but a release is forthcoming.

Update, 3:50 PM Eastern

Per Erik Erlendsson, Erne’s deal has been officially inked:

He will be headed to Syracuse to join the Crunch on an amateur tryout agreement. However as a 19 year old he won’t be able to stay there for next season; after training camp the Lightning will have to decide whether to return him to his major junior team or keep him up with the NHL club.

In any event, this move is good for Erne, who gets to continue playing and at a higher level than the QMJHL, and it’s good for Syracuse, who can use all the healthy, productive bodies they can get.

The official release from the team:

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed forward Adam Erne to an entry-level contract today, vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced. He will report to the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League for the remainder of the season on an amateur tryout contract.
Erne, 18, played in 48 games with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this season, recording 21 goals and 62 points along with 65 penalty minutes. He ranked second on the Remparts for points and was fourth for goals. Erne played in one playoff game with Quebec during the QMJHL playoffs and recorded one goal.
The 6-foot-1, 206-pound forward appeared in 180 games over three seasons with Quebec, amassing 57 goals and 189 points to go along with 164 penalty minutes. He also skated in five games for the United States at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championships in Sweden, posting one assist.
Erne was selected by the Lightning in the second round, 33rd overall, at the 2013 NHL Draft.
