Quick Strikes: Callan Foote’s dad leaves Avalanche coaching job

The Bolts

Darren Dreger has suggested that former Avalanche defenseman Adam Foote, father of Tampa Bay Lightning first-round draft choice Callan Foote, is leaving the Colorado Avalanche organization to spend more time with his family. Will the family home remain in Colorado? Maybe it depends whether his younger son gets drafted by another sunbelt team. Come on down, the weather’s fine!

Report: Adam Foote leaving coaching role with Avalanche. “Foote, who has been spending time working with the Avalanche as a defensive coach since retiring in 2011, is stepping away from his development role to spend more time with his family, according to Dater.” [Sportsnet]

NHLDreger | Things are real strange around that Avalanche team: “I was told the other day that Adam Foote has left the organization. Adam Foote was a player development guy, but highly respected. He was a guy that the management types of the Colorado Avalanche would lean on from time to time. Now, he’s got some focus elsewhere with his son Cal drafted high by the Tampa Bay Lightning. His younger son, Nolan, he’s going to be a high pick. Both are playing for the Kelowna Rockets this year. So there might be a level of distraction.” [FanRagSports]

Love collecting Bolts cards? So does Justin. He went to the National Sports Collectors Convention so that you wouldn’t have to. [Raw Charge]

Yay! Lightning to hold 17th Annual Florida Hospital Bolt Run. “The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Lightning Foundation will hold the 17th annual Florida Hospital Bolt Run, presented by Dasani, benefitting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the March of Dimes on Saturday, October 21 with the first race starting at 7:30 a.m. at AMALIE Arena.” [NHL]

The Game

We’ve got our eyes on you still, Big Ben! 10 things to know about Ben Bishop: from losing some teeth, multiple on-ice fights and some insane saves: “He stands at 6-7 making him an inch taller than goalies like Devan Dubnyk and Scott Darling. That makes him a full two feet and seven inches taller than a standard NHL net. And that’s before he puts his skates on.” [Dallas News]

Yes, most of these are not remotely rivalries. Off the Crossbar: NBC’s ‘Rivalry Night’ Becomes Just ‘Night’: “On Oct. 18, the Montreal Canadiens travel west to battle their arch-nemesis, the Los Angeles Kings. It’s a quintessential contest between two teams that have about as much pent-up hatred for one another as two puppies.” [THW]

Bertuzzi’s Future Hinges on Red Wings Salary Cap: “If Detroit is unable to clear some cap space either via trade or waivers, the team could very well choose to play Witkowksi over Bertuzzi on a more regular basis based on Witkowski’s lower AAV of $750,000.” [THW]
