In the first day of Anton Stralman, we look back to the Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman’s time developing in Sweden. “In Stralman’s age 17 year, he played for Skovde IK’s men’s team in Division 1. Division 1 is the third tier of professional hockey in Sweden. In 27 games, he contributed four goals and 12 points. He was fourth among U18 players in Division 1 and first among U18 defenders.” [Raw Charge]

The Prospects
They Syracuse Crunch’s home, War Memorial Arena, is in need of a renovation. Syracuse.com tells us what $8.5 million will get. “The proposed [$4.5 million by the Country], combined with $1 million that had already been set aside, will pay for the new suites, marquees, LED screens and scoreboard. The remainder of the project depends on securing additional funds.” [Syracuse dot com]

Tampa Bay Lightning defensive prospect Oleg Sosunov looks to make an impact in the WHL with the Moose Jaw Warriors right out of the gate. “Tampa Bay has a pretty good track record with what they’ve done with Russian players. This is a guy they’ve signed to an NHL contract and in February, March and April and hopefully beyond, spending the whole year with us, he’s going to be a hard guy to play against at that time of the year.” [Moose Jaw Times Herald]
The Game
The Philadelphia Flyers will be retiring number 88 this season. Eric Lindros’ number will be joining Bernie Parent, Mark Howe, Barry Ashbee, Bill Barber, and Bobby Clarke in the rafters of the Wells Fargo Center this January. “Lindros was one of the most prolific scorers in NHL history, tallying 865 points across 760 total games. Concussions plagued Lindros throughout his career, and they were what ultimately caused his early retirement at the age of 34 in 2007.” [SB Nation]
Russian winger Danis Zaripov was banned by the KHL for doping, but has been cleared to pursue an NHL contract. Why? Because the substance he was banned for is not prohibited in the NHL. “The NHL said in a statement that Zaripov was cleared in part because pseudoephedrine is not on its prohibited substances list and that he was not allowed to testify at his hearing. The league said it approved Zaripov’s status after he testified last week and it reviewed evidence related to the suspension.” [CBC]
