The Bolts

Lightning’s Yzerman open to change, but Cooper’s job is safe. “We have our core and I want to add to that core,” Yzerman said. “Over time, your core has to change, that’s the reality, you can’t afford to keep everybody. They age, they mature. Are players untouchable? Yes. Because I want to build around the core.” [Tampa Bay Times]

Hedman, Kucherov named All-Stars; Tampa Bay Lightning injury updates. “Head coach Jon Cooper mentioned that Bishop could make an appearance in net for one of this week’s two games – Thursday against Buffalo or Friday against Columbus. That was all but confirmed when Gudlevskis was sent back to Syracuse later in the day.” [Lightning Insider – subscription]

Tampa Bay Lightning to promoted Syracuse Crunch goalie: Ooops, never mind. “In their latest head-spinning move, the Lightning have re-assigned goalie Kristers Gudlevskis to the Crunch. That move came just a few hours after Tampa Bay recalled him from Syracuse.” [Syracuse.com]

Lightning’s Hedman, Kucherov chosen as All-Stars. “Deserving guys for sure,” center Brian Boyle said of Hedman, Kucherov being All-Stars. “Two really big bright spots for us this year, guys that continue to get better and better and want to get better and better. We want to follow their lead.” [Tampa Bay Times]

Anthony Cirelli wore the “player of the game” suit when he played his first game with Dylan Strome.

Even Jonathan Toews is confused about why he made the 2017 NHL All-Star team. “I definitely think Bread Man, Arty and Hoss should be there,” Toews said referring to Artemi Panarin, Marian Hossa and Artem Anisimov. “They’re at the top of the leaderboard in scoring and they’ve been carrying this team offensively, too. They’ve been playing so well. I guess you can only pick so many guys. I happened to sneak in there somehow. Not sure how.” [For the Win]

Canadian NHL teams poised for playoff return. “Good news, Canadian hockey fans: the national playoff drought will probably end this year.” [CBC]

NHL announces full All-Star Game rosters. “Among the first-time All-Stars is Philadelphia forward Wayne Simmonds, who began his NHL career with Los Angeles before being traded 5 1/2 years ago.” [Associated Press]

Toronto Maple Leafs trade Jhonas Enroth to Anaheim Ducks for seventh round pick. I guess Garret Sparks is safe from a return to Orlando. [PPP]
