Quick Strikes: Mikhail Sergachev has been everything the Tampa Bay Lightning wanted and needed

The Bolts

The Tampa Bay Lightning placed Erik Condra on waivers yesterday. Condra is expected to clear and make his way to Syracuse, where he is the Crunch’s captain. Condra has been injured up until this point, which is why he is only being sent down now. [Raw Charge]

“Condra played in 18 Calder Cup playoff games with Syracuse, scoring 5 goals and 11 assists. Heartbreakingly, Condra sat out the final four games in the final round with a herniated disc. The problem ‘…severely weakened the muscles in his legs and prevented him from skating at full speed.’”

At 19-years-old Mikhail Sergachev is impressing a lot of people. [Tampa Bay Times]

“But Karlsson and Hedman have been in the league for at least a decade. Sergachev has played 19 NHL games. That’s what separates Sergachev, having the swagger to make such dynamic plays so soon at this level.

‘Is brazen a word?’ coach Jon Cooper said. ‘He’s brazen enough to make that play.’”

The Lightning posted some video of their mini-game. Lots of fun moments in here.

Bryan Burns did a mailbag session covering Victor Hedman, Sergachev, the defense as a group, Steven Stamkos, what it’s like being a beat reporter, everything. It’s a must-read simply because there are bits of information and insight that he shares that you can only get from someone who is with the team every day. [NHL dot com]

“I think Hedman is more than capable of continuing his current minutes per game pace, and if I’m the Lightning, I want him on the ice more often than not because he’s one of the best players on the team and his production increases with higher ice time.”

Someone tell Caley we need more videos like this, ASAP.

The Prospects

@Allovimo explains what it takes to create fans for life. [Raw Charge]

“Sure, a racy billboard might grab a few more comments than normal on a local website. A publicity stunt might increase Google searches for a week or two. A graphic ad with shock value might result in an uptick of sales for the quarter. All of those things work in the short-term.

But what keeps people coming back?”

This week’s ECHL affiliate review sees the Adriondack Thunder go 1-1. [Raw Charge]

“Another busy week for the Thunder, as they have four games on tap. On Wednesday Adirondack heads back west to Illinois, where they will face the Quad City Mallards, another old foe from the UHL days. Friday and Saturday, they head to Michigan for a pair of games with Kalamazoo, the old Tampa ECHL affiliate. Finally, on Sunday, they cross the border for an afternoon face off with division rival Brampton.”

The second game between Team Russia and Teal WHL was not as lopsided as the first game, with Russia edging WHL out by a score of 4-3. Brett Howden did not play in this game, while Callen Foote had one shot on goal, one minor penalty, and was on the ice for a goal against. [Bolt Prospects]

The Game

Josh Ho-Sang has been sent back down to the AHL. Why? Let Lighthouse Hockey explain. [Lighthouse Hockey]

“We talk about rolling lines over. The shifts were a little too long and, full disclosure, I didn’t like that he came out to the point, did a couple circles and…there’s habits you’ve got to break. It’s not about him not caring. He just loves to play and he got himself carried away a little bit.” – head coach Doug Weight

Ivan Provorov is good at the sport of hockey. The Broad Street Hockey crew delve into his “super-human effort” while the team is injured on their most recent podcast. Check them out!

Did your team score three goals in regulation last night? Well they probably won (sorry Flames fans). Five of the nine games last night were decided by a score of 3-1, the Oilers beat the Islanders 2-1, and the Canadiens beat the Golden Knights 3-2. The only teams to buck the trend were the Flames who lost 5-3 to the Canucks, and the Kings and Ducks who went to overtime after tying 3-3 in regulation (Nick Shore winning that game in overtime for LA). Highlight of the Night: Connor McDavid continues to find ways to trudge forward with the rest of the Edmonton Oilers on his back. Good move from Leon Draisaitl. Great shot off the wrong foot. Top-notch celly at the end, there. [Reddit]
