Did you know it was the 100th year of the NHL? Perhaps they should have marketed it a bit more.”

The United States Womens National Hockey Team has been doing great work in the community! Don’t think I haven’t caught on to the fact that these athletes are already scouting their future teammates.

I would have killed to have Hayley Wickenheiser or Cassie Campbell teach me puck handling skills! It’s really great of the USWNT to come out and do this, especially so close to the Olympics.

25-year-old Ty Loney takes his career one chance at a time. His most recent chance is with an injury depleted Syracuse Crunch team. Not only has Loney been getting a regular shift with the Crunch, but he’s played a not-so-small role in the teams’ most recent run of success. [Syracuse]

“Everyone wants more time, wants more and more. But you have to be patient and learn that it’s going to take some time,” he said. “You’re never going to get what you want right away. And sometimes that’s a good thing. When you are patient, and you get it, you understand that it’s not easy to get places. I think you learn how hard it is to earn it. You’re not given anything. So when you have to fight for what you get and earn it, whether it’s playing time or whatever it is, you understand how hard it is.”

In administrative news, the Syracuse Crunch have sent forward Shane Conacher back down to the ECHL Adirondack Thunder, a team that has lost a lot of talent due to the needs of teams they are affiliated with. [Syracuse]

“Conacher, 23, has played in 16 games with the Thunder this season, earning 18 points (3g, 15a). He has also appeared in two games with the Crunch. Last season, he posted 11 points (2g, 9a) in 25 games with the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL. The 5-foot-9, 175-pound right wing also skated in three contests with the Toronto Marlies.”

The Vancouver Canucks and the LA Kings made a trade in the dead of night.  The trade is 1 for 1: Subban for Dowd. Jordan Subban that is. Sorry for scaring you, in my defense, the LA twitter account played the same joke on everyone who is away at 2am on a Thursday night.

It appears as though Seattle will become the NHL’s newest expansion franchise. They are aiming to join the league in 2020 at a cost of $650 million. That’s $150 million more than what the Vegas Golden Knights had to pay for their expansion fee. [Sportsnet]

Highlight of the Night: I’d like to relive with you the Ottawa Senators giving up the go-ahead goal in a tie game with five minutes to go, only to tie the game themselves with only eight seconds to go, only to lose the game in overtime.
