Quick Strikes: Syracuse Crunch announcer Dan D’Uva gets called up

The Bolts

Long-time radio and TV play-by-play announcer for the Syracuse Crunch, Dan D’Uva, has been hired by the Vegas Golden Knights to be part of their first broadcast crew, ever! Huge congradulations goes out to Dan! @allovimo is especially proud of you! “He has called some of the team’s most historic games, including runs to the 2013 and 2017 Calder Cup Finals and the Toyota Frozen Dome Classic in 2014. He also contributed to two AHL All-Star Classic broadcasts, on radio in 2015 and on television in 2016.” [NHL dot com]

@Bethelhub explores the musical experience at Amalie Arena and the game op’s ability to make the game that much more fun and enjoyable. “Thunderstruck is a widely played tune at sporting events, yet holds a special place in Amalie Arena. The resounding “Ah Ah Ahhhh’s” provide an easy, accessible melody for fans to sing. Followed with the shouts of “Thunder!”, the classic rock anthem is a crowd-pleaser and fits nicely into the mold of the arena’s atmosphere.” [Raw Charge]

The Crunch

Hoping for a speedy recovery for Erik Condra.

Erik also spoke about Bryan Murray and the impact he had in his life. He gave me my first opportunity to play in the NHL. He’s just a great hockey mind. You always think of hockey, but he was also a great person. He would try to stay away as much as he could (as a GM), but when you’re in tough times, he’d come in and make his presence known.” Rest in peace Mr. Murray :’( [Tampa Bay Times]

The Game

The internet freaked itself out for a few hours after a tweet came out that the Boston Bruins want to deal yet another young star, Joe Thornton Phil Kessel Tyler Seguin Dougie Hamilton David Pastrnak:

Stanley Cup of Chowder quickly stepped in and threw some logic at the situation. “The Bruins have plenty of cap space. It’s as close to a non-issue as it can be. Yes, I get it that you don’t want to blow all your cap space if you don’t have to, and that other guys are going to need new contracts soon. But per CapFriendly, the Bruins have $10 million in cap space. Even if Pastrnak was asking for the moon (i.e. $10 million), the Bruins could afford to do it.” The whole article is a great look into Boston’s current roster and salary cap situation.
