Quick Strikes: Tampa Bay Lightning look to top their best home start in franchise history

The Bolts

Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov are special players for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Here’s how they became first and second stars of the week in the NHL. “Despite his dramatic increase in assists he isn’t sacrificing his shots. Stamkos is still averaging 3.33 shots per game which is in line with his career average of 3.20. The goals will start coming, for now he’s content with feeding the hot hand. The hot hand being Kucherov.” [Raw Charge]

Stamkos, Yanni Gourde, and J.T. Brown took some time to help the Humane Society find some homes for these adorable dogs.

The Lightning host the Detroit Red Wings tonight in their secon meeting this season. The Bolts are proving their home dominance, kicking off the season 5-0-0 at home. They can “establish a new franchise mark for consecutive victories at home to start a season with a win over the Red Wings, bettering the record of five-straight home wins set in 2002-03, 2007-08 and 2012-13.” [NHL dot com]

When it comes to first career NHL goals, that was a pretty good one!

Cherish these moments, Bolts fans. Over the past few weeks, the flags have adorned our cars, we proudly sport lightning bolts across our chests, and a smile and nod greets you as you pass fellow Lightning faithful on the street. There is no denying that things are good for the Tampa Bay hockey community right now.

But that won’t always be the case this season.

The Prospects

Shane Conachar, who has only played in two AHL games this season, has been sent to the Adirondack Thunder so that he may be given some playing time. “The 5’11” right-winger has previous ECHL experience as he played 25 games for the Orlando Solar Bears last season where he scored two goals and added nine assists.” [Raw Charge]

Editorial: @Allovimo writes an open letter to Crunch owner Howard Dolgon regarding the treatment she has recieved as a woman at Syracuse hockey games. The post was sparked by a billboard advertisement the Crunch organization ran. [Raw Charge]

I have gone above and beyond what 90% of this team’s male fan base has ever done.

Then you, the owner of this team, go out and put something like this in Syracuse. What am I supposed to think? That I am valued for my support of the team, rather than my appearance?

I think the worst part about this is that I feel like I have no real voice. The team already has my money.

Young Crunch defenseman Ben Thomas wants to be “the guy” in both the offensive and defensive zone. “I think it’s a part of my game. I like to jump in the rush and help create offense. I think now I definitely have the confidence to do that and get back into my position to be a good defender. It’s been one thing I’ve always liked to implement in my game, and I’m going to try and continue to do it.” – Ben Thomas [Auburn Pub]

The Game

Elliotte Friedman reported last night that Vadim Shipachyov has been given permission to look around for a trade. Ship has only played in three NHL games this season due to the Vegas Golden Knights not being able to find a roster spot for him.

Soon after, Marc Bergevin does the most Marc Bergevin thing in the world.

Highlight of the Night: The United States played Canada in an exhibition match at Boston University and, as a Canadian, I gotta say it was a great game. (CAN 5 – 1 USA)

All of the NHL games last night were boring and all of the goals in the CANvUSA game were awesome so my highlight tonight is the only goal USA scored. Emily Pfalzer jumps between the defense and finishes off her own rebound in style.
