Quick Strikes: Tampa Bay Lightning prospect camp begins

News about Foote, Cernak, Howden, and ... Dan Girardi?!

The Bolts / The Pipeline

Erik Cernak makes Lightning Development Camp debut: "He's a big, strong, puck-moving defenseman that offensively can jump in, but he's probably going to be more of a defensive guy," Tampa Bay director of player development Stacy Roest said following the first day of camp. "He knows his limitations and knows what he needs to do to play the game." [Tampa Bay Lightning]

Top Lightning pick Cal Foote: It's 'starting to feel more real': "Foote, 18, picked 14th overall Friday in the NHL Draft, put on a Lightning jersey and practiced during the opening day of the development camp at the Ice Sports Forum. He met with staff members and executives, went through testing and drills." [Tampa Bay Times]

Cal Looks to Leave His Own Foote-Prints in the NHL: “I couldn’t really sleep last night, I was tossing and turning,” he said with a boyish grin. “I just relaxed today and got ready to come to the draft. I came here ready for anything and I’m very excited I was drafted.” [The Hockey Writers]

Girardi among players Bolts are looking at: "E.J. Hradek, the Sr Reporter for NHL Network, first reported the news via Twitter. Girardi, 33, was bought out by the New York Rangers and TFP reported on Monday that he is 'very sought after.'" [The Fourth Period]

The Game

Pierre thinks Shattenkirk to the Bruins: "It's rumor season! Rumors are often silly and often wrong, but fun to discuss regardless." [SCOC]

Which NHL teams face toughest, easiest schedules in 2017-18? "Oh, and in their inaugural season, the Vegas Golden Knights travel 42,128 miles and must endure 12 back-to-back sets, so they deal with a pretty middle-of-the-road haul." [NBC]

NHL Trade Rumors: Duchene to Pittsburgh Penguins whispers are back -- "CBC's Elliotte Friedman thinks that the Penguins could be in the picture for Colorado's Matt Duchene. Could it be?" [Pensburgh]

Joe Thornton to the Los Angeles Kings? "Now, the potential for Joe Thornton to bring his talents to Los Angeles? That’s potentially scary for the Sharks." [Puck Daddy]

And congrats to Raw Charge writer Tom Hunter, who has taken on the job of Managing Editor at Mile High Hockey!
